Alyssa Healy Hints at UP Warriorz Opening Pair for WPL 2024

UP Warriorz will kick off their WPL 2024 campaign against RCB women.

UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy is enjoying the happy headache of choosing the best playing XI from the star-studded squad in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024.

During the debut edition of the tournament, the Warriorz faced hurdles in their opening pair. Alyssa Healy showcased consistency, but her partners Shweta Sehrawat and Devika Vaidya had a mix of highs and lows.

However, this time, the Warriorz feature players like Chamari Athapaththu and Danni Wyatt, both seasoned international achievers with notable contributions across various domestic franchises worldwide.

However, Healy expressed a likelihood of opting for an Indian opening partner in the early stages of the WPL. Even with Vaidya no longer part of the squad, Sehrawat persists as a potential candidate for the Warriorz in their batting lineup.

Here’s what Alyssa Healy said in the press-conference ahead of WPL 2024:

“Chamari, if she does come into our playing order, I think she will be in the top order. We will have to wait and see how the season pans out.”

“Last year, our middle-order saved us a lot and put us in great positions to win games at crucial stages. So, it is going to be difficult, knowing exactly what we have got and getting the balance right. But we will have to see how the season unfolds,” Healy added.

The UP Warriorz will go head-to-head against Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, February 24 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
