IPL 2024: Shivam Dube Out, Sameer Rizvi In; CSK’s Playing 11 vs RCB for Match 1

CSK vs RCB: Shivam Dube is doubtful in the Chennai's playing 11 for this game as he is yet to recover from the injury

The opening encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will see Chennai Super Kings going head-to-head against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday, March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

MS Dhoni who is often regarded as one of the greatest team constructors of all time but this time we won’t see him captain a side anymore, it is sad. Isn’t it ?

As for CSK’s newly appointed skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad will look to lead the side, but in the shadown of his big man, Dhoni. No one knows what goes through his mind, we all can just make an assumption of it. So here we will have a look at how CSK’s XI shapes up for their first face-off against the Faf du Plessis-led unit.

Chennai Super Kings’s Playing 11 vs RCB

The team will stick to their tried and tested opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, but in the absence of their regular opener, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra is likely to open the innings for the Chennai Super Kings.

Ajinkya Rahane will slot in middle order and the defending champions will expect him to start off from where he left last season.

Furthermore, when you play at Chepauk you expect it to spin, so packing your side with spin will always be a pragmatic approach for any side.

Things still aren’t clear about Shivam Dube’s recovery from the side strain that he picked up last month while playing Ranji Trophy, if he’s fit and fine the tall all-rounder plays otherwise their newly recruited Sameer Rizvi may make his debut.

Ravindra Jadeja is their go-to option in spin department while for the pacers, the Yellow Army will put their faith in their old horse Deepak Chahar, who is coming off a long injury lay-off and their newly acquired pace all-rounder Shardul Thakur.

Another point of discussion is choosing between Moeen Ali and Mustafizur Rahman. Since Dhoni advocates for more batting depth, Moeen may play ahead of Rahman, and if the English all-rounder plays then Tushar Deshpande can feature as the Impact player.

CSK’s Probable Playing 11 vs RCB:

Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube/ Sameer Rizvi, Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (WK), Moeen Ali/ Mustafizur Rahman, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana

Impact Player: Tushar Deshpande
