MS Dhoni has stepped down from CSK’s captaincy ahead of IPL 2024.
In a major turn of events, MS Dhoni has stepped down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the baton has been passed to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been appointed as the new captain. He will lead the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Meanwhile, the head coach of Chennai Super Kings, Stephen Fleming, has opened up about this decision, stating that no one was aware of it until all the captains were invited to gather for the trophy photoshoot. He also mentioned that it was an emotional decision, but MS Dhoni upheld it.
“I got to know about the captaincy handover decision of MS Dhoni just before the captain’s photoshoot,” Stephen Fleming told PTI.
Furthermore, Fleming emphasised that Ruturaj Gaikwad, as a young leader, will be under the shadow of MS Dhoni this season and will be properly groomed under his guidance. The entire CSK management supports Dhoni’s decision in this regard. In regards to MS Dhoni’s availability for the IPL 2024 season,
Fleming clarified that Dhoni is in better shape compared to last season and will be playing the entire upcoming season.
“I’m expecting MS Dhoni to play the complete season. His body is much better this season.”
However, IPL 2024 could be the final season for MS Dhoni donning the yellow jersey as he is expected to hang up his boots from the IPL after the season.
