The Invincibility of Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is the cream of the crop in T20 cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah is a freak, a genius, and an all-time great bowler, and he makes us all realize these things very often. And when I say ‘often,’ it is a testament to his incredible consistency and skills, which make him incomparable to his peers.

On an evening where the rest of the Mumbai attack was taken to the cleaners, and the opposition amassed 236 runs in 16 overs at an economy rate of 14.75, Bumrah conceded just 36 runs with an economy of 9 runs per over in his quota of 4 overs. This indicates how well he contained some of the most destructive hitters of the T20 format.

These sorts of performances have now become a hallmark of his great T20 career, where he becomes a one-man army in front of T20 batters, against whom run-scoring is just as hard as walking on water, effectively making it a 16-over contest for the opposition to play with.

T20 sides around the world have now understood that hitting against Bumrah is next to impossible, so they seldom take risks against him and try to be as pragmatic as they can by minimizing the risks even if it comes at a cost of conceding some deliveries to the opposition, believing they could make it up by thrashing the rest of the attack.

This, at last, helps his own teammates because to make up for the lack of runs, the opposition batters take more frequent chances against the rest of the bowling lineup, which results in wickets.

Bumrah’s angle with which he operates makes him a unique bowler with his “Hit the Deck” skills, the cutters, the Yorkers, and the composure he shows against batters is what makes him an asset to have on your side and arguably makes him the first name to have on the team sheet.

India would want him to continue his form into the World Cup later this year because Bumrah just doesn’t hamper the growth of the opposition but also instills a sense of calmness and confidence in his colleagues.

Wrap him, savor him, and consider yourself lucky because great bowlers are hard to find, and bowlers of Bumrah’s caliber occur once in a century or maybe more than that.
