IPL 2024: ‘Mumbai Indians at Fault for Appointing Hardik Pandya as Captain’ – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, coming in support of Hardik Pandya, rebuked Mumbai Indians management over their mishandling of the captaincy controversy.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has come to the defense of the new captain of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, stating that the crowd shouldn’t boo him as it is not his fault.

Ganguly, who is serving as the director of cricket of Delhi Capitals currently stated that the Mumbai Indians management is at fault because it was their decision to bring back Hardik and appoint him as the captain.

Here’s what Sourav Ganguly said in his recent press conference ahead of Delhi Capitals’s next game against Mumbai Indians:

“I don’t think they should boo him. The franchise has appointed him as the captain. This is what happens in sports when you captain the country or a state. If we see Rohit Sharma, he has a different class. His performance as a captain and player for the franchise and for India has been on a different level. It’s not Hardik’s fault that he has been appointed as Captain.”

Notably, Hardik Pandya has been going through a tough time ever since he has been appointed as the captain of the Mumbai Indians, replacing the five-time, IPL title winning captain, Rohit Sharma.

It all started with social media trolls. Then it went to the cricket stadium, as he has been booed in almost all the stadiums that he has visited so far in the IPL 2024, be it Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, or recently Mumbai.
