Ravichandran Ashwin Nominated For ICC Player Of The Month Award For February 2021

ICC Player of the Month: India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, England Test captain Joe Root and West Indies newcomer Kyle Mayers have been nominated for the ICC award.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Awards for the month of February to recognise the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket. Meanwhile, one of the most dominating bowlers in world cricket in the longest format, Ashwin has been nominated as one of the three male cricketers by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the Player of the Month Award for February.

Ashwin has been in brilliant form with both bat and the ball for the past 2-3 months, first with his brilliance in Sydney Test against Australia and then in the first two Tests against England. Scoring a total of 176 runs across these games with taking a total of 24 wickets, Ashwin is the deserving candidate to be nominated in the Men’s category for February.

Along with Ravichandran Ashwin, England’s Test skipper Joe Root and West Indian batsman Kyle Mayers have been shortlisted.

The voting process for the fans have begun on the ICC website and the results will be announced on March 8. Besides Ashwin and Root, West Indies’ new batting sensation Kyle Mayers was also nominated for award for his brilliant performance in the Bangladesh tour last month.

West Indies batsman Kyle Mayers, who recently made his debut and played 2 Tests against Bangladesh, scored a match-winning 210 to help the West Indies successfully chase 395 and win the first Test against Bangladesh. This performance alone is deserving of this nomination.

“Scoring a total of 176 runs across these games with taking a total of 24 wickets, Ashwin is the deserving candidate to be nominated in the men’s category for February,” the ICC release stated.

“England Test captain Joe Root makes it to the list of nominations again this month for his outstanding performance with the bat and the ball. He scored a total of 333 runs and took 6 wickets overall in the 3 Tests that he played against India,” it further stated.

England’s Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver along with White Ferns’ Brooke Halliday have been nominated in the women’s cricket category for the Player of the Month award.
