IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Backed as Wicket-Keeper Batter for T20 World Cup

Sourav Ganguly wants Rishabh Pant as a wicket-keeper batter in T20 World Cup 2024.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner, and the debate regarding the wicket-keeper batter is intensifying as days pass by. The IPL 2024 is serving as an audition platform for the biennial tournament.

Players like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Dinesh Karthik have emerged as the frontline wicket-keepers, vying for a spot in the India squad for the T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the former Indian captain and current director of cricket for Delhi Capitals, Sourav Ganguly, believes that Rishabh Pant could be a great choice as a wicket-keeper batter.

Rishabh Pant returned to competitive cricket in April 2024 after surviving a severe car accident on New Year’s Eve 2023. He has shown great form and improved fitness since then.

So far, Rishabh Pant has accumulated 254 runs in 8 matches for Delhi Capitals, with an average of 36 and a strike rate of 150. Sanju Samson is currently the highest run-scorer among wicket-keeper batsmen in IPL 2024 with 314 runs.

On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik has been playing a finishing role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has made himself available for selection in the T20 World Cup 2024 if given a chance.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul has shown aggression and intent in his recent IPL games, which is surely putting the selectors in a dilemma regarding the best choice for the wicket-keeper position in the prestigious tournament.
