Bangladesh Women Defeat India Women in ODI for the First Time, Clinch 1-0 Series Lead

Bangladesh Women thrashed Indian Women by 40 runs (DLS Method) marking the first-ever ODI win against India.

In a historic turn of events, the Bangladesh Women beat Indian Women by 40 runs (DLS Method) in the first ODI match of the three-match series, marking the first-ever ODI win for the hosts over the Women in Blue.

Amidst a rain delay, the match was curtailed to 44 overs per side. Bangladesh, putting to bat first, struggled to find momentum and finished with a total of 159 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 43 overs. Captain Nigara Sultana and Fargana Hoque led the batting charge, scoring 39 and 27 runs respectively.

For India Women, Amanjot Kaur proved to be the standout performer, claiming a four-wicket haul while conceding a mere 31 runs in her nine-over spell. Devika Vaidya also displayed excellent form, taking two wickets in the seven overs she bowled. Additionally, Deepti Sharma also contributed with a wicket.

India Women Crumbles in Embarrassing Collapse

India’s response highlighted a glaring lack of game awareness as none of their batters managed to breach the 20 run-mark as the team was bowled out for just 113 runs in 35.5 overs. Deepti Sharma and Yashika Bhatia were the top run-getters for India, with 20 runs and 15 runs respectively.

For Bangladesh, the right-arm quick Marufa Akter bowled a sensational spell, picking up four wickets. Rabeya Khan was also in sublime form, taking three wickets. With this victory, Bangladesh women have taken a 1-0 lead in the series, leaving two matches remaining.
