The curtains fell on the exhilarating Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) as the Chennai Super Kings, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, clinched their fifth trophy, beating the Gujarat Titans by five wickets in a last-ball thriller.

This victory has brought the Chennai Super Kings on par with the Mumbai Indians, who are five-time champions, as both teams now share the record for winning the tournament the most number of times, with five titles each.

Sai Sudharsanβs Batting Masterclass
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Chennai Super Kings restricted the Gujarat Titans to a mammoth total of 214 runs in their 20 overs.
Sai Sudharsan, the star young batter played a magnificent knock of 96 runs off just 47 deliveries before getting dismissed LBW by Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana.

Wriddhiman Saha played a valuable knock of 54 runs from 39 deliveries before falling prey to Deepak Chahar’s delivery, misjudging a pull shot and offering an easy catch to MS Dhoni.
Apart from these two, captain Hardik Pandya played a quickfire knock of unbeaten 21 runs off just 12 balls.

For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana was the standout performer with the ball, bagging two wickets and giving away 44 runs in his four overs. Tushar Deshpande, however, had a terrible outing, conceding 56 runs without getting a breakthrough.

Later in the second half, the match was interrupted by rain after just three balls into Chennai Super Kings’ innings, leading to a revised target of 171 runs for CSK from 15 overs.

CSK got off to a blazing start courtesy of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who put up a formidable display in the power play, registering a swift 52 runs in just four overs. Their remarkable batting continued as they amassed a remarkable 72 runs in the first six overs.

However, the momentum swung in favour of the Gujarat Titans as Noor Ahmed and Mohit Sharma unleashed chaos, wreaking havoc on the opposition. Nevertheless, Ravindra Jadeja had the final say, sealing the match with a boundary.
