A Brief History
The CPL was officially launched in 2013, though its roots can be traced back to an earlier tournament called the Caribbean Twenty20. Cricket West Indies took over and reshaped the competition, in order to create a more exciting and competitive platform for Caribbean cricket. Since then, the CPL has grown in popularity and has become a key part of the cricket calendar.
In the inaugural season of 2013, the Jamaica Tallawahs won the first-ever CPL title. Over the years, the Trinbago Knight Riders have emerged as a dominant team, having won the CPL title record four times.
The tournament has steadily gained a larger following, attracting fans not just in the Caribbean, but also internationally. Importantly, the CPL has provided a platform for young West Indian players to showcase their talent, helping many of them to rise to international fame.
The Caribbean Premier League’s 12th season (CPL 2024) is set to commence on August 30, 2024. The tournament will be played over several weeks, with the final set played on October 7th. Overall, a total of 34 matches will be played in the tournament, including the knockout rounds.
