Conditions For India and Australia to Qualify For ICC World Test Championship Final After England’s Defeat in Pink Ball Test

After India defeated England in the third test, England knocked out of the race of World Test Championship.

India, on Thursday, beat England by ten wickets in the Third Test to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the four-match series. A game that was scheduled for five days ended in less than two days. This is only the second match in India which has ended in two days. The first was India’s win against Afghanistan in Bengaluru in 2018.

For England, this was the end of their ICC World Test Championship dreams. One of the heroes of the match was Test newbie, Axar Patel, who returned with figures of 11/70. With Ravichandran Ashwin, who became the second-fastest bowler to take 400 wickets in the longest format of the game, toyed with England batsmen. But one would say, there was a demon in the pitch.

India, Australia in Race For ICC WTC Final, England Out of The Race

The victory in Ahmedabad has further brightened up India’s chances of making it to the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). New Zealand has already booked their spot in the final which is scheduled to be played in June at the Lord’s. England, on the other hand, are already out of the race for a place in the WTC final after Thursday’s loss.

Ahead of the start of the ongoing series, India, England as well as Australia were in the queue for the one remaining WTC final spot. After the result in the third Test between India and England, only the former and Australia are in the contention. So here are the scenarios for India and Australia to book a thriller with Kane Williamson and Co in the final.

India:

A draw in the fourth and final Test will be enough for Virat Kohli & Co. to make it to the final of the inaugural edition of the ICC WTC. The hosts just need to avoid a loss in the fourth Test to progress to the final. India needs to win the series 2-1 or 3-1 to achieve its target.

Australia:

If England manages to beat India in the final Test then only Australia can make it to the finals and will face New Zealand in the WTC Final.
