10 Teams Divided In Two Groups As BCCI Announced League Stage Format For IPL 2022
The 2022 Indian Premier League will see a tweak in format as 10 teams will be divided into groups of five but the number of matches per side will remain 14.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the format for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), also declaring that the cash-rich league will commence from March 26 with the final scheduled on May 29.
“The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in a bio-secure environment at a single hub to avoid air travel which is considered as a major threat for the spread of COVID-19 infection, thereby affecting the players and the League/matches,” the BCCI said in a statement.
With the 15th edition of IPL set to be a 10-team event, a total of 70 league matches will be played in the tournament with all the franchises divided into two groups.
The two groups were finalised on a seeding system, based on the number of IPL titles won and the number of final appearances. Hence, Mumbai Indians top the list, followed by Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, with their title wins, round up the top five.
The two new additions – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are also placed in two separate groups.
