Aaron Finch RCB’s Biggest Disappointment in IPL 2020: Aakash Chopra

Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia, was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Out of 15 matches played by RCB, Finch was featured in 12 games in which he accumulated 268 runs at an average of 22.33 and had crossed 50-run mark only once in the whole season.

His uncapped compatriot Joshua Philippe replaced him for few matches but he came back in his side’s Eliminator battle against David Warner led SunRisers Hyderabad. But once again he failed to make an impact and scored only 32 runs.

Finch didn’t meet the expectations of all the cricket fraternity as they were speculating that addition of the Aussie captain would surely take the burden off Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. But it didn’t happen as expected as Finch was not in-form throughout the season and team had to rely on Kohli and de Villiers for making the scoreboard run.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer and now commentator Aakash Chopra has opened up on the failure of the Aussie captain and called him RCB’s biggest disappointment in the recently-concluded edition of the Indian Premier League.

“Aaron Finch was the biggest disappointment for RCB this season. They had put huge stakes on him and stuck with him for a long time as well. You expect the Finch hitting from him,” Chopra said in a video shared by him.

He Got a Whole Lot of Chances to Bat: Aakash Chopra

Speaking on the number of chances Finch got, Chopra said that the Australian cricketer got enough opportunities but as he was not in the form, he failed in making an impact.

“He got a whole lot of chances to bat. So no one can say that he played in this team and was not given the chances. You can say that for Moeen Ali, that he was in and out of the team but Aaron Finch played all the matches, I mean he played 10-12 matches at the start,” Aakash Chopra added.

“But the form was not seen at all. Neither the form was seen nor the runs. He was even dropped at the end and then brought back again because Joshua Philippe did not do a great job either,” the former India opener further said.

If Aaron Finch Had Been Playing Well, The Pressure Would Have Been Less on Virat And AB de Villiers: Aakash Chopra

Further speaking on RCB opener’s performance, former Indian cricketer said that if Finch would have managed the side along with Padikkal, then the pressure would have been less on Kohli and AB de Villiers.

“But you had more expectations from Aaron Finch. Because imagine if Devdutt Padikkal was playing well from one side and Aaron Finch had been playing well, then the pressure and responsibility would have been less on Virat and AB de Villiers,” Chopra said.

Chopra concluded with saying that RCB needs Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal kind of openers who can suddenly ‘catapults’ the team to greater heights.

“And you need a Quinton de Kock type of performance or say the KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal type of performance that suddenly catapults your team to greater heights.

“But that did not happen with this team. And the main reason for that was the big-stake player who was played, that is Aaron Finch and from RCB’s perspective he was a bit of a disappointment,” Chopra concluded.
