Afghanistan Cricket Board Announces a 16 Members Squad for The 3 Match ODI Series Against Ireland

Afghanistan Cricket Board announced a 16-member squad for the 3 matches ODI series against Ireland to be played at UAE.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Sunday, January 3, announced a 16-member squad for the 3 matches ODI series against Ireland to be played at United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting January 18.

Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host all the three ODIs. While the Ireland team has already reached Abu Dhabi, Afghanistan is waiting for the confirmation of the visas of the players so that they can board the flight to UAE.

This series is a part of the World Cup Super League and will affect the chances of them making it to the 2023 World Cup in India. Hence, this is a very important series for both nations as it might be the deciding factor for both the team to World Cup 2023.

We Didn’t Prepare Enough: ACB Director

Afganistan Cricket Board (ACB) has organised a training camp in Nangarhar before the Commencement of the series in UAE. But due to the harsh weather, practice sessions whitewashed and wasn’t fulfilled the desires. At the same time, ACB Director opined on the Afghanistan squad stated that the management has tried to make a balanced catalogue of young and experienced players in the team.

“We could not have a good preparation for the last few days because the weather is not good in Afghanistan as here it is very cold,” Raees Ahmadzai, ACB’s director of cricket, told Cricbuzz when asked about the preparation of the players.

“We tried our best to select the best available squad. The side is very balanced as we included some youngster along with the seniors,” he said
