Ashish Nehra Next Head Coach Of the Indian Team? Report Reveals Details

Ashish Nehra had a successful stint with Gujarat Titans in IPL.

The hunt for India’s next head coach is heating up, with applications for the position now open. While Ashish Nehra’s name has been floated, reports suggest the Gujarat Titans coach is currently not interested in the role.

The Indian team needs a coach for all three formats as Rahul Dravid’s contract expires after the T20 World Cup later this year. While Dravid can re-apply, reports suggest he might not be keen to continue.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for a coach for a three-and-a-half-year term, starting from July 1st, 2024, and lasting until December 31st, 2027. This demanding role requires the coach to be with the team for a significant portion of the year, roughly ten months.

Ashish Nehra’s successful stint with the Gujarat Titans makes him a strong contender. He led them to a championship victory in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023.

While initial reports suggested Nehra was in the running, the latest PTI update suggests that he is not interested in taking up the role. However, the situation could change before the application deadline on May 27th.

The BCCI seems to be leaning towards an Indian coach who really knows the ins and outs of cricket. Nehra fits the criteria perfectly, given his awesome playing career and recent coaching wins.
