Australian Fast Bowler Nathan Ellis Becomes The First Bowler To Take T20I Hat Trick On Debut
Nathan Ellis made his T20I debut for Australia on Friday by replacing Mitchell Starc in their playing XI for the ongoing third T20I against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Nathan Ellis’ hat trick, on Friday went in vain as Bangladesh registered 10 runs victory over the visitors and with this the Tigers have also taken an unassailable lead 3-0 in the 5-Match T20 series.
Bangladesh won the first game by 23 runs and the second one by five wickets. There are still two games left.
Meanwhile, Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis on Friday became the first cricketer in history to take a hat-trick on his T20 international debut. The 26-year-old Ellis replaced Mitchell Starc in the Australian playing XI and immediately made an impact in his first game.
Ellis, who was handed the Australian cap by senior pacer Mitchell Starc and has made the match extremely special by becoming the third Australian to take a T20I hat-trick and made it even more memorable by achieving the feat on his T20I debut, becoming the first bowler to do so.
Notably, Lee was the first bowler ever to achieve the feat also against Bangladesh during the T20 World Cup in Cape Town in 2007. Lee got the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza and Alok Kapali.
Ashton Agar got his hat-trick against South Africa at the Wanderers in 2020 when he dismissed Faf du Plessis, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dale Steyn.
Both hat-tricks in 2007 and 2020 resulted in an Australian victory but only Nathan Ellis hat-trick went in vain as their batters failed to chase the target and eventually fell 10 runs short.
Ellis’ efforts finished his four over spell with figures of 3/34, as he dismissed Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan in the final over of the Bangladesh innings.
Ellis had conceded many runs in the initial overs, however, the bowler recovered well in the death overs, which was enough to put his side in a formidable position in the contest.
