Babar Azam Body-Shames Azam Khan, Calls Him ‘Genda’; Video Goes Viral
In a viral video, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam can be seen body-shaming Azam Khan.
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign is off to a rocky start, not just due to selection woes but also a controversy surrounding captain Babar Azam’s remarks towards teammate Azam Khan.
Azam Khan, the young wicketkeeper-batter, has been under fire for his recent performances. Critics point to his struggles in the T20I series against England and question his inclusion in the World Cup squad, with some suggesting nepotism due to his father being former captain Moin Khan.
Adding fuel to the fire, a video circulating on social media shows the Pakistan team practising in Dallas. During a warm-up session, Babar Azam is heard calling Azam Khan “Genda” (rhinoceros) which some interpret as body shaming. The video shows Azam not reacting much, while other teammates laugh.
This has divided Pakistani fans. Many criticise Babar Azam for unprofessional behaviour, especially as captain. Others argue that Azam used “Kenda,” a Punjabi slang term for making a mistake and that the situation was lighthearted.
Azam Khan Deleted All Posts from Instagram
Earlier, Azam Khan deleted all the posts from his Instagram after facing a barrage of trolls, especially after his poor performance during the England series.
With the T20 World Cup 2024 opener against the USA just days away, the Pakistan team needs to weather this storm. Only time will tell if this controversy will impact their performance on the field.
