Babar Azam Sends Imad Wasim to Face Media After Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Exit
Pakistan will face Ireland in their last group stage match of T20 World Cup 2024 before flying back home.
Pakistan has been eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite losing to the USA and India, the team, led by Babar Azam, managed a confidence-boosting win against Canada. However, rain in the USA vs. Ireland match ultimately dashed Pakistan’s hopes of advancing.
This marks the second consecutive World Cup where Pakistan has failed to progress. In 2023, under Babar Azam’s leadership, they also didn’t make it to the semifinals of the ODI World Cup in India.
This year, Pakistan didn’t reach the Super Eight stage, once again under Babar Azam’s captaincy. The team’s poor performance has put significant pressure on Azam, as the cricket team has faced tough times during his tenure.
The Men in Green will play Ireland in a match on Sunday that holds no significance, as India and the USA have already advanced from Group A.
Before the match, a press conference was held, but instead of attending himself, Babar Azam sent all-rounder Imad Wasim. This is not the first time Azam has skipped a press conference following the team’s poor performance. It remains to be seen whether he will retain his captaincy after the tournament.
Additionally, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi has suggested a major overhaul of the team after the T20 World Cup. There are reports that players like Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Mohammad Amir may be dropped from the T20 squad.
