BAN vs IND: Abhimanyu Easwaran Likely to Replace Rohit Sharma in Bangladesh Tests – Reports
Rohit Sharma dislocated his thumb during 2nd ODI in Dhaka.
Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to replace Rohit Sharma in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting from December 14.
The Test series opener will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram before the action moves to Dhaka for the second and final game of the tour.
“Abhimanyu Easwaran has scored back-to-back hundreds in the ongoing A Test series and is an opener. In all likelihood, he will join the squad in Chattogram after finishing his second A Test in Sylhet,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Easwaran has been in the greatest batting form lately. He scored consecutive centuries in the two four-day unofficial Tests against Bangladesh A. He was a part of the Indian squad that toured England earlier this year.
Rohit Sharma set to fly back to India
For the unversed, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma suffered a thumb injury in the second ODI. During Bangladesh’s innings, he was fielding at the slip when he attempted to take a catch of Anamul Haque but failed to complete it and instead injured his thumb terribly.
The Mumbai batter left the field immediately in pain and was taken to the hospital for a scan, which revealed a dislocation in his thumb. He didn’t open the innings for India but came to bat at No.9, where he smacked an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls but couldn’t take his team over the finish line.
Earlier head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that Rohit Sharma will not take part in the third and final ODI of the series as he is set to fly back to India to ascertain the gravity of his injury. With him traveling back to India, it is highly unlikely that the 34-year-old will further take part in the Test series.
