BBL 2022-23: Perth Scorchers Announce Tymal Mills’ Replacement For Remaining Season

Tymal Mills pulls out of BBL 2022-23 due to a family emergency.

Perth Scorchers announced left arm pacer David Payne as a replacement for Tymal Mills for the remaining BBL|12. Mills recently pulled out of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) due to a family emergency.

Reflecting on signing with the Perth Scorchers, David Payne said:

“I feel incredibly excited and lucky. I’ve always followed the Scorchers, with the links we’ve had at Gloucester – Michael Klinger, AJ Tye and Cameron Bancroft. I’ve also recently played in the T10 league with Peter Hatzoglou, so there’s a lot of friendly faces.

“I know how successful Perth are, so to be stepping into their dressing room is incredibly exciting and I can’t wait to get out there. The short notice has made it even more exciting – it’s the best Christmas present ever, to be honest.”

Payne, who plays for Gloucestershire and Welsh Fire, has played 126 T20 matches so far in which he has taken 155 wickets with the best bowling figures of 5 for 24.

Earlier, Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh also ruled out of the tournament due to respective injuries while Laurie Evans’ contract was terminated after failing a dope test.

The defending champions started their tournament campaign on a winning note, trouncing Sydney Sixers by 38 runs. However, they suffered a narrow eight run loss against Hobart Hurricanes in their next match.

Currently, they are placed at the fourth position with two points in their account. They are scheduled to play their next match against Melbourne Stars on December 23rd in Melbourne.
