BBL 2024-25 Challenger: Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder – Match Highlights and Scorecard

Sydney Thunder beat Sydney Sixers by 4 wickets in the Challenger match of the BBL 2024-25.

In a thrilling Challenger match of the 2024-25 Big Bash League, Sydney Thunder successfully chased down Sydney Sixers‘ total of 151/7, securing a 4-wicket victory.

The Sixers’ innings started on a shaky note, losing early wickets. Kurtis Patterson (11) and Jack Edwards (7) were dismissed cheaply. Philippe’s run-out for 16 and Henriques’ 29 kept the innings afloat, but a mid-order collapse saw the Sixers slip to 76/5.

Daniel Silk’s 43* was the standout performance, as he provided much-needed stability. Despite a brief cameo from Dwarshuis (30) and Kerr’s late strike, the Sixers posted a modest 151/7 in 20 overs.

Wes Agar (2/25) and Tom Andrews (2/15) were the pick of the Thunder bowlers, while George Garton (1/14) and McAndrew (1/42) chipped in with crucial wickets.

In response, Sydney Thunder were in a tricky position, losing wickets at regular intervals. Jason Sangha (30) and David Warner (11) were dismissed early, and the Thunder found themselves at 65/2. A critical partnership between Sam Billings (42*) and Matthew Gilkes (26) helped steady the ship, and though a few more wickets fell, Billings’ calm presence at the crease guided Thunder to a comfortable victory.

The Thunder reached 157/6 in just 18.5 overs, with Hayden Kerr’s (2/35) performance with the ball proving invaluable for the Thunder, who successfully chased the target with 7 balls to spare.

Sydney Thunder will now face Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL 2024-25 final on Monday.
