Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the schedule of the initial 21 matches of the 2020–21 season of the Big Bash League (BBL) on Thursday.

The league’s initial matches, starting on 10 December, will be played in the Hobart and Canberra. After this, Queensland (23 December) and Adelaide (28 December) will host matches.
The first match of the season will be played between the Hobart Hurricanes and the defender champions Sydney Sixers at the Blundstone Arena.
The venue of matches in the new year will be announced in the coming weeks.
Cricket Australia has hoped that the relaxation of restrictions on the border will allow matches to be held in every state.
“There is no doubt that this was the toughest thing the league has ever done for the fixtures and we are very happy with the way it happened,” said BBL Head Alastor Dobson.
He further said, “This year has been difficult for many people across Australia. If the border conditions allow us, then we want to take BBL to every state.”
“We are working closely with our clubs, broadcasters, partners and the government on the remaining 35 matches and final of the season,” he said. An announcement in this regard will be made in the coming weeks.
Only nine matches of the BBL will be played before India and Australia test series starts in Adelaide on 17 December. There will be a 10-day break in BBL by the time the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins. After this, BBL matches will be played on the day during the rest of the Test series. BBL remaining matches will be played after the end of the Test matches.
