The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday announced wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson as a replacement for KL Rahul in India’s squad for the five-match Twenty20 International series against West Indies, starting Friday, July 29.

Sanju Samson was part of the squad in the recently concluded ODI series that the team won 3-0.

Notably, the opening batter was expected to join the team for the series after recovering from his surgery but after testing positive for Covid-19 on July 21, his availability for the T20I series came under scanner.

The 30-year-old has now been advised one week rest by the BCCI medical team and hence he will miss the entire T20I series against West Indies.

“KL Rahul was earlier named in the squad and his participation in the T20I series was subject to fitness. The batter tested positive for COVID-19 last week and has been advised rest by the BCCI medical team,” added the BCCI.
