Rohit Sharma is set to captain Team India in the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Despite his struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he will continue to lead the team. The Test series will begin on June 20 and will be India’s first challenge in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.

Squad Announcement Expected After IPL 2025

According to reports from PTI, the squad for the England series will be announced around the final week of IPL 2025. A source close to the development stated that selectors would wait until the IPL knockouts before making a final decision. This will give them a better idea of players’ availability and form.

Rohit Sharma’s Struggles in Australia

Rohit Sharma had a tough time in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He managed only 31 runs in three Test matches and even dropped himself for the fifth Test. India lost the series, adding to their previous defeat against New Zealand. Despite this, the selectors have shown faith in Rohit’s leadership for the England tour.

India’s Schedule in England

India’s 45-day tour of England will start with the first Test at Headingley on June 20. The team will aim to win a Test series in England for the first time since 2007.

Before the senior team’s matches, the India A side will also play two four-day matches against the England Lions:

  • First match: May 30 at The Spitfire Ground, Canterbury
  • Second match: June 6 at County Ground, Northampton

These games will help young players prepare for the red-ball challenge in England.

Champions Trophy Victory Boosts India’s Confidence

After the disappointing series in Australia, Rohit Sharma led India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The team remained undefeated throughout the tournament. This win has boosted India’s morale ahead of the England tour.
