BCCI Initiates Investigation, President and VVS Laxman to Speak with Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur was at the center of a verbal dispute with the umpire during the third ODI against Bangladesh.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has stated that President Roger Binny and National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman will have a conversation with India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur over her behaviour during the third ODI match against Bangladesh last week.

For the uninitiated, Harmanpreet Kaur was at the center of a verbal dispute with the umpire during the third ODI against Bangladesh after a controversial decision resulted in her dismissal.

Even after the match, Harmanpreet Kaur did not hold back, making inappropriate comments about Bangladesh and the umpires during the post-match photo session.

She went as far as asking the Bangladesh captain, Nigar Sultana, to bring the umpires, hinting at their supposed favouritism towards Bangladesh in the third ODI.

In a conversation with the media on Thursday, July 27, after a BCCI meeting regarding the World Cup 2023, Shah addressed the Harmanpreet controversy and said:

“We will have our President Roger Binny and VVS Laxman speak to her (regarding her behavior). The ICC has already banned her and the time to appeal against the decision has already passed.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed a two-match ban to the Indian Women’s captain over her behaviour in Bangladesh. As a result, she will miss the team’s first two Asian Games 2023 matches.
