Fortune Barishal clinched the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 title after a nail-biting three-wicket win over Chittagong Kings at Shere Bangla Stadium, Dhaka. Chasing a stiff target of 195 runs, Barishal reached the mark in 19.3 overs, securing their maiden BPL trophy.
Chittagong Kings Post a Big Total
Chittagong Kings batted first and put up an impressive 194/3 in their 20 overs. Parvez Hossain Emon played a brilliant knock, scoring an unbeaten 78 off 49 balls, with six fours and four sixes. Khawaja Nafay also made a valuable 66 off 44 balls, while Graham Clark added 44 runs off 23 balls.
For Barishal, Mohammad Ali and Ebadot Hossain took one wicket each. However, their bowlers struggled to contain the runs, with Tanvir Islam conceding 40 runs in just two overs.
Barishal’s Chase and Late Drama
In response, Tamim Iqbal gave Barishal a flying start, smashing 54 off 29 balls. Kyle Mayers played a crucial role in the middle overs, scoring 46 off 28 balls. Towhid Hridoy (32 off 28) and Mushfiqur Rahim (16 off 9) also contributed.
However, the game took a tense turn when Shoriful Islam picked up four wickets, reducing Barishal to 187/7 in 18.6 overs. But Rishad Hossain kept his cool and smashed 18 runs off just 6 balls, sealing the victory with three balls to spare.
Barishal’s victory ended Chittagong Kings’ hopes of lifting the trophy. It was a thrilling final, with both teams giving their best, but Barishal held their nerve in the end.
