Corey Anderson Confirms New Zealand Retirement, Signs For USA’s MLC On 3-Year Contract

New Zealand all-rounder, Corey Anderson has announced retirement from international cricket at the age of 29 and has signed a three-year contract for the Major League Cricket T20 to be held in the United States of America.

Anderson played 49 ODIs, 13 Tests and 31 T20 matches for New Zealand. He also holds a record of hitting the fastest century in One Day Internationals. Due to his constant struggles with injuries, Corey Anderson never really managed to play at a stretch for New Zealand. His last appearance for the Black Caps came way back in November 2018.

Confirming the decision of his switch to MLC from New Zealand, Anderson told Cricbuzz: “It’s been a huge honour and extremely proud to represent New Zealand. I would have loved to have achieved and played more but just is what it is sometimes, and different opportunities arise and send you in a direction you never thought would be a possibility. Very appreciative for everything that NZC has done for me.”

Speaking further about his decision, the New Zealand all-rounder said ‘it was not an easy one.’ He revealed how his fiance, Mary Margaret helped him in making the decision and move to the USA for the final stretch of his cricket career.

“It hasn’t been an easy decision. I asked myself several questions. What do I want to do now or what do I want to achieve in the next two years, five years, 10 years? As you get older you think about life a little bit more broadly as well. And obviously, my fiance, Mary Margaret, who’s born and raised in America, she’s had a massive part to play in that because she’s sacrificed so much for me, by moving to New Zealand, getting immersed in a different culture there and, and supporting me through a lot of tough times with injuries and time out of cricket.

So, when the opportunity arose, we thought that living in America is the best thing, not only for my cricket, but it’s, it’s the best thing for both of us in general as well,” Corey Anderson added.

Corey Anderson has signed a three-year deal to play in Major League Cricket T20 to be held in the USA. He scored more than 2,000 runs in international career and also has 90 wickets to his name. He had also made his appearance for the Mumbai based franchise in the Indian Premier League.
