CSK Caught Faking Player Injury to Rope In Star Batsman Midway Through IPL 2025
CSK is under fire after reports claim they faked a player's injury to sign Dewald Brevis as a replacement.

The Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful franchises in IPL history, is under fire after serious allegations surfaced regarding the signing of South African youngster Dewald Brevis. Reports claim that CSK faked an injury to pacer Gurjapneet Singh to bring in Brevis as a mid-season replacement.
Earlier, CSK had officially announced that Gurjapneet Singh had been ruled out of the season due to injury. They used that claim to sign Dewald Brevis as his replacement, which marks their second replacement signing after bringing in Ayush Mhatre for Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had suffered a confirmed elbow fracture.
However, the twist came when Gurjapneet Singh was spotted bowling in full rhythm at a CSK net session. A journalist present at the venue confirmed that the pacer was not only active but also bowling with proper intensity, directly contradicting the claim made by the franchise.
Gurjapneet, who had a price tag of ₹2.2 crore, hasn’t played a single game for CSK this season. Yet, he was considered one of their sharpest performers in the nets. The decision to label him “injured” and bring in Brevis has now raised eyebrows across the cricketing fraternity.
The controversy deepens with the fact that Brevis, who had a base price of ₹75 lakh, was roped in for the same ₹2.2 crore, the exact amount paid to Gurjapneet. Many are calling this a tactical move by the franchise to utilize their overseas slot and boost their batting strength mid-season.
If these allegations are true, it could lead to serious consequences. Misleading the IPL governing body regarding a player’s fitness status goes against the league’s policies and code of conduct.
