Chennai Super Kings‘ young spinner Noor Ahmad is now the new holder of the purple cap in IPL 2025. He overtook Shardul Thakur on the list of highest wicket-takers after a match-winning spell against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Noor Ahmad was outstanding with the ball against RCB. He took three crucial wickets, playing a big role in restricting the opposition. His first breakthrough came when MS Dhoni’s quick stumping helped him dismiss Phil Salt. He then removed Liam Livingstone and Virat Kohli, finishing with figures of three for 36 in four overs.

This performance added to his brilliant spell against Mumbai Indians, where he picked up four wickets. With these performances, Noor now has seven wickets in IPL 2025, surpassing Shardul Thakur to claim the purple cap.

Shardul Thakur’s Strong IPL Performance

Shardul Thakur has also been in great form for Lucknow Super Giants. He started his campaign with two wickets against Delhi Capitals and later destroyed Sunrisers Hyderabad with a four-wicket haul.

However, Noor Ahmad made full use of the spin-friendly pitch at Chepauk, helping Chennai Super Kings with crucial breakthroughs. His consistency has put him on top of the wicket-taking charts in IPL 2025.

RCB Post a Big Total Against CSK

Despite Noor Ahmad’s brilliant bowling, RCB managed to score 196 runs. Rajat Patidar led the charge with a powerful fifty, while Tim David played a quick cameo towards the end. CSK now have a tough chase ahead at their home ground.
