‘Don’t Be Scared, Drop Virat Kohli from T20 World Cup Squad’ – Michael Vaughan To Indian Selectors

Michael Vaughan asked Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector to take bold calls.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is just a month away, with the prestigious tournament set to be co-hosted by the United States of America and West Indies in June.

All the participating teams are currently closely monitoring players to select the best squad for the upcoming tournament.

Meanwhile, the ongoing IPL 2024 is expected to serve as the benchmark for selecting Indian players for the team India squad for the biennial tournament.

Amidst all this, former England captain Michael Vaughan has advised Indian national selector Ajit Agarkar not to hesitate in dropping big names from the squad for the team’s benefit.

Vaughan emphasised that if Agarkar believes the Indian T20 team is better off without Virat Kohli, then they should drop him and not prioritise him solely because of his reputation.

Here’s what Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz:

“What I’ll say to Ajit Agarkar is don’t be scared of being brave. If he ultimately believes that the Indian T20 team is better off without a Virat Kohli or a KL Rahul, that’s how he should deliver the team.”

“Don’t feel pressured to select only big names, especially considering their lack of trophy wins. A fresh perspective, unburdened by past disappointments like the November 2023 World Cup or the previous T20 World Cup, might be what’s needed. The selector likely has around 30 names to consider, spanning bowlers, batters, spinners, and whoever is chosen, they’re expected to be competitive.”

Notably, Virat Kohli is currently the highest run-scorer of IPL 2024 with 316 runs in four matches, but his strike rate is drawing scrutiny.

There are reports that Virat Kohli has already been finalised to be fit for the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Clarity is expected when the squad is announced.
