ENG vs NZ: Devon Conway Breaks Sourav Ganguly’s 25-Year-Old & Kane Williamson’s 11-Year-Old Record On The First Day Of The Lord’s Test
New Zealand opener Devon Conway had a dream start to his Test career as he joined former India skipper Sourav Ganguly by scoring a hundred on his debut at Lord's.
New Zealand opener Devon Conway on Wednesday surpassed former India captain Sourav Ganguly to record the highest Test score on debut at Lord’s during the first match of the series against England in London.
The left handed batsman was unbeaten on 136 to maintain the blistering start to his international career in all formats, making an array of shots, leaving well and showing a compact defense to blunt England’s all-seam attack under blue skies at the home of cricket.
Notably, Conway surpassed Ganguly when the Kiwi opener crossed the 131-run mark in the 83rd over of New Zealand’s innings on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test. 25 years ago, Ganguly had scored 131 off 301 balls with 20 boundaries to become only the third player after Harry Graham and John Hampshire to hit a hundred on Test debut at the Lord’s.
Devon Conway opened the innings with Tom Latham and had a decent 58-run partnership with him. England picked up the wickets of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor before the Black Caps touched 115.
Still, debutant Conway did not crumble under pressure. He held one end and stitched an unbeaten 132-run partnership with Henry Nicholls to guide New Zealand to 246/3 at the end of Day 1.

Devon Conway Broke Kane Williamson’s Record
Devon Conway is playing his first Test under the captaincy of Kane Williamson. Well, the New Zealand captain will be delighted to know that his team’s newest member has broken his own record.
Williamson scored 131 runs on his Test debut against Team India in Ahmedabad. It became the highest score by a debutant Kiwi batsman while playing outside New Zealand. However, the record has got a new owner now. After surpassing Ganguly’s 25-year old record, Conway has broken Kane Williamson’s 11-year-old record.
