England Remains Winless Against European Sides in T20 World Cup History After Scotland Match Abandoned

The T20 World Cup 2024 match between England and Scotland got washed out.

The much-anticipated ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match between Scotland and England on Tuesday was abandoned due to rain in Barbados. Both teams were awarded a point each for the no result.

However, with this, England continues their winless streak against European teams in the T20 World Cup history.

Scotland, after electing to bat first, had set a challenging target of 109 runs in 10 overs for England under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Openers George Munsey (41 not out) and Michael Jones (45 not out) stitched together an unbeaten 90-run partnership for the first wicket before rain intervened for the second time, bringing a premature end to their innings.

The Scottish duo started cautiously against the pace of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer, negotiating the powerplay overs with composure.

Later, Munsey and Jones upped the ante after the rain break, scoring 39 runs off the remaining 22 balls. Spinner Adil Rashid came in for some punishment, conceding 24 runs in his two overs.

For England, Barbados-born Jofra Archer, making his T20 World Cup comeback after injury, displayed promising signs of regaining full fitness. He bowled two tidy overs for 12 runs, but the Scottish openers looked comfortable against him in the overcast conditions.

While the match was a washout, both teams will take away a point each from the encounter. Scotland will be pleased with their batting display, particularly the unbeaten opening stand. England, although denied a chance to chase, would be keen to get their World Cup campaign back on track in their next outing.
