Delhi Capitals (DC) have named Faf du Plessis as their vice-captain for IPL 2025. A few days ago, they announced Axar Patel as their captain.
Faf du Plessis’ Leadership Experience
Faf du Plessis has led an IPL team before. He was the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the last IPL cycle. Under his leadership, RCB reached the playoffs twice in three seasons.
In IPL 2024, RCB made a stunning comeback. They won six matches in a row to qualify for the playoffs. His leadership skills helped the team perform well under pressure.
Why Did RCB Release Him?
Despite his leadership, RCB decided to release Faf du Plessis before the IPL 2025 mega auction. The decision was mainly due to his age and inconsistent performances.
Delhi Capitals saw his value and bought him for INR 2 Crore in the auction. Now, they have given him an important role in their leadership group.
Faf du Plessis’ IPL Career
Faf du Plessis is one of the most experienced players in the IPL. He has played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before joining Delhi Capitals.
In 145 IPL matches, he has scored 4,571 runs at an average of 35.99 and a strike rate of 136.37. He is expected to open the batting with Jake Fraser-McGurk this season.
