From IPL to The Hundred: 3 Cricket Teams Owned by Kavya Maran!
Here are three teams owned by Kavya Maran.
The Sun Group, owned by Kalanithi Maran, has expanded its cricket presence globally. Recently, the company acquired a 100% stake in Northern Superchargers, a team in The Hundred tournament. Kavya Maran, the CEO of Sunrisers Hyderabad, plays a major role in managing the Sun Group’s cricket franchises.
Here are the three teams owned by the Sun Group and, in turn, by Kavya Maran across different leagues.
3. Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Sunrisers Eastern Cape is a team in South Africa’s SA20 league. The Sun Group has owned this franchise since the league’s launch. The team has been highly successful, winning back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. They have also made it to the final of the 2025 edition, where they will face MI Cape Town in the championship match.
2. Northern Superchargers
The Hundred tournament in England was previously run entirely by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). However, starting in 2025, private owners have taken over the teams. The Sun Group has acquired Northern Superchargers, becoming one of the six new franchise owners in the competition. Reports suggest that the deal was worth around £100 million.
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is one of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. The team was originally known as Deccan Chargers, owned by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd. However, in 2012, financial troubles led to the team being disbanded. The Sun Group then took over and renamed the team Sunrisers Hyderabad. Under their ownership, SRH won their first IPL title in 2016.
With three teams across different leagues, Kavya Maran and the Sun Group continue to expand their influence in world cricket.
