‘From the Streets of Borivali’ – Yuvraj Singh Reveals His First Impression of Young Rohit Sharma

Yuvraj Singh revealed his first impression of young Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma, gearing up to lead India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, will be aiming to break the team’s trophy drought that stretches back to the 2013 Champions Trophy. The 37-year-old batter is on the cusp of becoming India’s most-capped player in T20 World Cups.

After leading India to the T20 World Cup semi-finals in 2022 and a heartbreaking loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Rohit Sharma will be determined to end India’s wait for a major ICC title.

In a recent chat with the ICC, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared his first impression of a young Rohit Sharma, describing him as someone with “very poor English” but also a “funny guy.”

“Very poor English. Very funny guy. From the streets of Borivali (in Mumbai), we always tease him. But a great guy at heart. The more success he’s had, he has never changed as a person. That’s the beauty of Rohit Sharma. Fun-loving, always having fun with the guys, A great leader on the park and one of my closest friends from cricket,” Yuvraj Singh told the ICC.

Yuvraj, the brand ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2024, also expressed his desire to see Rohit Sharma lift the World Cup trophy and wear a World Cup medal.

“I really want to see Rohit Sharma with a World Cup trophy and a World Cup medal. He really deserves it,” added Yuvraj Singh.

“Rohit’s presence is going to be very crucial. I think we need a really good captain, a sensible captain who makes decisions well under pressure. And he’s the one to take them.”

This could be Rohit Sharma’s final opportunity as captain to lead Team India to World Cup glory, as it’s unlikely he will be playing in the ODI World Cup 2027 or any future T20 World Cups.
