Boult and Bumrah destructed the top order of Chennai Super Kings so badly that the team managed to score only 114 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings, batting first, had lost six wickets for just 30 runs. Sam Curran then went on to score 52 runs off 47 balls to take the team’s score to 100. However, he returned to the pavilion on the last ball of the innings to be dismissed for a long shot. The team could score 114 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Chasing the low total of 115 runs, Mumbai Indians won the match in just 12.2 overs without losing wickets. Ishan Kishan (68) and Quinton de Kock (46) played a match-winning innings for MI.
After the match, Fleming said that there was nothing left for his team in the match as half of the team already returned to the pavilion in Powerplay and the plan was to have some runs on board to give them a half a chance.

“We were pretty stunned really. It was a terrible Powerplay. To lose wickets so quickly, so frequently, the game was almost over in the Powerplay,” said Fleming during the post-match press conference.
“So the message during the timeout was to have some runs on the board to give us half a chance in the game as our bowling was strong due to overseas players,” he added.
Chennai Super Kings made three changes in their playing eleven. Ruturaj Gaikwad, N Jagadeesan and Imran Tahir were picked in the playing XI against Mumbai Indians on Friday. Fleming said that they were keen to have Tahir play but witnessed a dismal batting performance at the start of the game.

“The pitches are becoming a little more difficult at times and our opening stands have been a little bit of mix. So the plan was to be positive and the reason why Ruturaj Gaikwad was there because we wanted to introduce Tahir to have some balance,” said Fleming.
“Our spin bowling has (been) little bit ineffective. So when you have one of the T20 spinners (Tahir), we were keen to play him but we had a poor batting display and it sums up our tournament. Everything we have tried has been opposite,” he added.
Chennai Super Kings had to face its biggest defeat in the history of IPL on Friday. They have lost by 10 wickets for the first time. Earlier, the team’s biggest defeat was by nine wickets, which was against Mumbai in 2008 at the Wankhede Stadium.
CSK is at the bottom of the points table. The team’s 13th season of IPL has been very challenging. The team has been able to win only three out of 11 matches and their hopes of reaching the playoffs are almost over.
