Gary Kirsten Joins Pakistan Team in England After Completing IPL 2024 Stint
Gary Kirsten is the white-ball head coach of Pakistan Cricket team.
Pakistan’s newly appointed white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten, has arrived in England to join the national squad ahead of their four-match T20I series against England. The series kicks off on May 22nd and will be played across four cities: Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, and London.
Gary Kirsten‘s arrival comes after his stint as batting coach for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. With the Titans eliminated from the playoffs, Kirsten has shifted his focus to his new role with the Pakistan team.
Following the England series, Babar Azam’s men will set their sights on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States from June 1st to 29th.
Pakistan finds itself in Group A alongside Ireland, Canada, and the USA, with their opening match scheduled for June 6th against the USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
This marks the official start of Kirsten’s tenure as head coach, having been appointed alongside Jason Gillespie, who will lead the red-ball team. Beyond the T20 World Cup, Kirsten will guide Pakistan in the Champions Trophy next year, hosted on home soil, and the 2025 Asia Cup.
Prior to Kirsten’s arrival, Azhar Mahmood served as the interim head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball team. With his experience of winning the 2011 ODI World Cup with India, Kirsten brings a wealth of knowledge and a winning mentality to the Pakistan camp. Fans will be eager to see if he can help them lift the T20 World Cup trophy in June.
