Gary Kirsten Ready to Coach Pakistan Cricket Team Again But On ‘THIS’ Bold Condition

Gary Kirsten is open to coaching Pakistan again but only if he’s given full freedom without outside interference.

Former Pakistan white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten has said that he is open to coaching Pakistan again but only if he is given full freedom and not forced to work under external pressure.

Kirsten had joined the Pakistan men’s team as limited-overs head coach in April 2024, while Jason Gillespie was appointed as the red-ball head coach. However, both resigned within six months due to growing tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Kirsten Opens Up About His Exit From Pakistan Role

Speaking to Wisden, the former South Africa cricketer said that things became difficult when he was removed from the team’s selection panel.

“It was a challenging few months,” Kirsten said. “I quickly realised that I wouldn’t have much impact. Once I was removed from selection duties and still expected to lead the team, it became very tough to make a difference.”

He also missed tours of Australia and Zimbabwe during his short stint.

‘I Will Return, But Only For The Players’

Kirsten made it clear that he is not closing the door on working with Pakistan again. But he stressed that any return would only happen if the working conditions are suitable.

“If I were asked to return to Pakistan, I would, but it would be for the players,” Kirsten said. “And I would want to go under the right circumstances — with full trust and space to do my job.”

The South African has previously coached India to their 2011 World Cup win and has always been respected for his calm, player-first approach.
