GT vs PBKS: Glenn Maxwell Registers a Golden Duck on His Punjab Kings Return in IPL 2025
Glenn Maxwell got out for a golden duck in his first match for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025.

Glenn Maxwell had a forgettable outing in his first match for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025. Facing Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, the Australian batter was dismissed for a golden duck.
Maxwell’s Dismissal and Record-Breaking Duck
Maxwell walked in to bat at No. 5 but could not open his account. He attempted a reverse sweep off leg-spinner Rashid Khan on the very first ball and was given out LBW. He chose not to review the decision and walked back without scoring.
This was his 19th duck in IPL history, setting a new record for the most ducks in the tournament. He overtook Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik on this unwanted list. Across his T20 career, Maxwell has now recorded 35 ducks, the fourth-most by any batter.
A Tough IPL Journey for Maxwell
Maxwell returned to PBKS after they bought him for ₹4.2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He previously played for the franchise in multiple seasons, with his best performance coming in 2014 when he scored 552 runs at a strike rate of 187.75.
However, his IPL career has been inconsistent. He had a poor IPL 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore, managing only 52 runs from 10 matches at an average of 5.78. This was a sharp decline from his 400 runs in IPL 2023 at a strike rate of 183.49.
Maxwell also had a fallout with then PBKS team mentor Virender Sehwag after a disappointing season when he was the team’s captain.
Selfless Decision and Commentary Praise
Despite his early dismissal, Maxwell was praised by on-air commentators for not reviewing the LBW decision. They appreciated his selflessness, as many batters in similar situations opt for a review even when the decision seems clear.
With Punjab Kings hoping for a strong season, they will expect Maxwell to bounce back in the upcoming matches.
