‘I Feel Embarrassed When You Guys Call Me King’ – Virat Kohli’s Message to Fans Ahead of IPL 2024
Virat Kohli attended the RCB’s unboxing event at Bengaluru.
The Indian batting giant, Virat Kohli, is known for his humility and the humble demeanour that he always exhibits, whether on or off the field. He has consistently shown respect towards his fans, which was evident once again during the recent RCB unboxing event at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
During the event, the host asked Virat Kohli: ‘How’s King feeling?’ Notably, fans and the cricket world generally know Virat Kohli by this ‘King’ moniker and often refer to him as such. When the host posed this question, the entire stadium erupted into ‘King’ chants. However, Virat responded by asking not to be called by that title as he feels embarrassed.
Here’s what Virat Kohli said:
“Guys, you all need to calm, we’ve to get to Chennai pretty quickly (smiles). I feel embarrassed when you refer me as the king, just tell me Virat.”
There is nothing wrong with the nickname ‘King’ that has been given to Virat Kohli, as he has always been the dominant force in world cricket, consistently scoring tons of runs across formats and continuously making headlines for his gameplay.
Notably, Virat Kohli is returning to competitive cricket with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, after an absence of over two months, having missed the entire five-match test series against England to be with his wife Anushka Sharma for the birth of their second child, Akaay.
Virat Kohli’s performance in the IPL 2024 season will be under close scrutiny by selectors and Indian team management, as it will significantly impact his chances of selection for the T20 World Cup 2024.
