New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 60 runs in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Batting first, New Zealand posted 320/5 in 50 overs, with Will Young scoring 107 off 113 balls and Tom Latham remaining unbeaten on 118 off 104 balls.

Glenn Phillips added a quick 61 off 39 balls to push the total past 300. Pakistan’s bowlers struggled, with Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf picking up two wickets each.

In response, Pakistan failed to build momentum and were bowled out for 260 in 47.2 overs. Babar Azam top-scored with 64 off 90 balls, but his slow innings put pressure on the chase.

Khushdil Shah played a fighting knock of 69 off 49 balls, while Salman Ali Agha contributed 42 off 28 balls. However, regular wickets derailed Pakistan’s chase.

William O’Rourke and Mitchell Santner took three wickets each, while Matt Henry claimed two. With this loss, Pakistan now faces a must-win match against India to stay in the competition.
