ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Match 3: Afghanistan vs South Africa – Match Highlights and Scorecard

India defeated Bangladesh by 6 wickets in the 2nd match of the ICC Champions Trophy, 2025.

South Africa started their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a convincing 107-run victory over Afghanistan at the National Stadium in Karachi.

A solid batting display, led by a century from Ryan Rickelton and half-centuries from Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram, set up the win. The Proteas bowlers then delivered a disciplined performance to bowl Afghanistan out for 208.

Ryan Rickelton Shines as South Africa Post 315/6

After being asked to bat first, South Africa got off to a steady start. Tony de Zorzi (11) fell early, but Rickelton and Bavuma built a solid partnership. Bavuma scored 58 off 76 before being dismissed by Mohammad Nabi.

Rickelton continued to dominate, scoring 103 off 106 before being run out. Van der Dussen (52 off 46) and Markram (52* off 36) provided late acceleration, helping South Africa reach a strong total of 315/6 in 50 overs.

Afghanistan’s bowlers struggled for consistency. Nabi was the most effective, taking 2/51 in his 10 overs. Noor Ahmad, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up one wicket each, but they couldn’t stop South Africa from posting a challenging total.

Rabada and Ngidi Lead South Africa’s Bowling Attack

Chasing 316, Afghanistan lost early wickets as Rahmanullah Gurbaz (10) and Ibrahim Zadran (17) fell inside the first 10 overs. Sediqullah Atal was run out for 16, and Hashmatullah Shahidi was dismissed for a duck, leaving Afghanistan struggling at 50/4.

Rahmat Shah fought hard, scoring 90 off 92, but lacked support from the other end. Azmatullah Omarzai (18), Rashid Khan (18), and Gulbadin Naib (13) tried to resist, but South Africa’s bowlers kept things tight.

Kagiso Rabada led the attack with 3/36, while Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder took two wickets each. Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj also chipped in with a wicket each, bowling Afghanistan out for 208 in 43.3 overs.
