ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Match 4: Australia vs England – Match Highlights and Scorecard
Australia defeated England by 5 wickets in the 4th match of the ICC Champions Trophy, 2025.

Australia pulled off a record-breaking chase of 329 runs to defeat England by five wickets in their opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
This is the highest-ever successful run chase in the tournament’s history. Josh Inglis starred with a stunning unbeaten 120 off 86 balls, guiding his team to victory with eight balls to spare.
Batting first, England posted a massive total of 351/8 in 50 overs. Ben Duckett led the charge with a brilliant 165 off 143 balls, supported by Joe Root, who scored 68.
However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to convert starts, with Adam Zampa and Marnus Labuschagne taking two wickets each for Australia. Ben Dwarshuis was also effective, picking up three wickets.
Australia‘s chase started on a shaky note, losing Travis Head and Steven Smith early. However, Matthew Short (63 off 66) and Marnus Labuschagne (47 off 45) stabilized the innings. The real turnaround came when Josh Inglis and Alex Carey put together a match-winning 146-run partnership.
Carey contributed 69 off 63 balls before falling to Brydon Carse, but Inglis continued his assault. Glenn Maxwell then finished the chase in style with an unbeaten 32 off 15 balls.
England’s bowlers struggled to contain Australia’s aggressive batting. Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse, Adil Rashid, and Liam Livingstone took a wicket each, but none could stop Inglis.
Rashid was the most economical, conceding just 47 runs in his 10 overs. The rest of the bowlers leaked runs, allowing Australia to maintain a strong scoring rate.
With this victory, Australia start their campaign with momentum, while England will need to regroup after failing to defend a massive total. Josh Inglis’ innings will be remembered as one of the best in Champions Trophy history, proving his worth in high-pressure chases.
