ICC Test Rankings: Virat Kohli Drops to 4th, Rishabh Pant Becomes Best Ranked Wicket-Keeper Batsman
Rishabh Pant, India's hero of Brisbane Test, became the top-ranked wicketkeeper in the latest ICC Test rankings for batsmen.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, released the latest Test rankings after the conclusion of the first Test between Sri Lanka and England and the massive Gabba clash between Australia and India.
Rishabh Pant, after scoring an unbeaten half-century at the Gabba on Tuesday, moved up to his career-best — 13th spot — in the latest ICC Test rankings for batsmen. Pant, with 691 ranking points, is the top-ranked wicketkeeper in the batting rankings. The 23-year-old left South Africa’s Quinton de Kock behind, who is at 15th place with 677 rankings points.
Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli, who headed back to India after playing Adelaide Test due to his paternity leave, has gone down one place in the list of ICC Test batsmen rankings. His place has been taken by Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, who ended up as the leading run-scorer in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar trophy, and had made a hundred at the Gabba.
England veteran batsman Joe Root, who slammed a double-century at Galle against Sri Lanka, leapfrogged Cheteshwar Pujara and Babar Azam to take the fifth spot in the list of batsmen.
Cheteshwar Pujara also gained one place to reach the seventh position while Ajinkya Rahane slipped down two places to ninth after a poor Gabba Test.
Australia’s veteran pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was the second leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar trophy and took six wickets in Brisbane, also gained one place to reach the fourth position in the list of ICC Test bowler rankings, which is headed by Pat Cummins.
India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been the major gainer for his side as he has advanced one rank each in the bowling and all-rounders category.
He has moved one place to acquire the eighth spot among bowlers. Ashwin scalped 12 wickets – second-most by an Indian bowler in the Border-Gavaskar series 2020-21. In the all-rounders’ group, Ashwin has swapped Mitchell Starc’s place to occupy the sixth position.
