ICC World Cup 2023: Aiden Markram Reacts After Hitting Fastest Century in World Cup History

Aiden Markram kicked off his World Cup 2023 campaign in style. The batting giant hammered a century in just 49 balls, propelling South Africa to a record-breaking victory against Sri Lanka in New Delhi on Saturday, October 7.

The South Africa batter went on to score 106 off just 54 balls as he broke the 12-year old record for the fastest hundred in a World Cup match held by Kevin O’Brien of Ireland.

Aiden Markram‘s ODI form was on fire, and he carried that scorching form into the World Cup after a terrific series against Australia last month.

He took the crease in the 31st over, right after Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen had lit up the scoreboard with centuries, and he went to town on the Sri Lankan bowlers, who were left scratching their heads without their big names.

In the post-match conference, when asked about breaking the fastest century record in the World Cup history, here’s what Aiden Markram has said:

“It feels fantastic. It comes off some days, doesn’t on others. That it’s fantastic today. I know what’s expected of me as a batter. We’re marrying being positive with being smart. Great how it’s coming together in the last 12 months. Initially, you want to get a feel for the wicket and find out the options you can take and then back it, regardless of the result, and trying things out that may not be in your repertoire.”

South Africa will next face Australia on October 12 at Shri Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
