I’ll Be There In The IPL But Don’t Know About The Captaincy: Shreyas Iyer
The remainder of the IPL is set to be played in the UAE between September and October, and Iyer believes he may be fit to make a return in the IPL 2021 for DC when the tournament resumes.
Shreyas Iyer, recently opened up on his availability for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021. He also provided a couple of crucial updates regarding his shoulder injury and the chances of taking over the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals from Rishabh Pant when the IPL 2021 season resumes in September in the UAE.
Iyer injured his shoulder during the three-match ODI series against England and was ruled out of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. While he was expected to be later part of the Indian squad for the World T20, a lot of it was dependent on his recovery from the shoulder injury.
The Mumbai-born also clarified that the he isn’t yet clear about his captaincy in the remainder of the IPL 202, and it’s up to the owners to take that call before the remainder of IPL 2021 resumes in the UAE.
“My shoulder… yes, I think the healing process is done. Now it’s the last stage of achieving strength and range. So that’s going to take about a month and the training is obviously going on. Other than that, I feel, I will be there in the IPL,” Shreyas Iyer told The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel.
“I don’t know about the captaincy, it’s in the hands of the owners. But the team has already been doing well and we are on top and that’s what really matters to me. My main aim and goal to lift the trophy which Delhi has never done before,” he added.
Notably, under Pant’s leadership, Delhi Capitals reached the top spot in the points table before the tournament was suspended due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases inside the bio-bubble.
Under Iyer’s captaincy, Delhi Capitals had reached the final of IPL 2020 in the UAE, but had missed out on their maiden trophy, as they lost the final clash against the defending champions Mumbai Indians.
