ILT20 2023: Delhi Capitals’ Sister Franchise Rope In Joe Root For Inaugural Season
Rovman Powell will lead Dubai Capitals in the inaugural season of ILT20.

Dubai Capitals have roped in former England Test captain Joe Root for the inaugural edition of the International T20 League, which is set to get underway next year in January.
Dubai Capitals is owned by the GMR group, who also happen to be the co-owners of the Delhi Capitals in the most famous franchise tournament – the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The English batter last played in a foreign T20 league in 2018-19 while representing Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League. It will be his second stint in the foreign T20 league.
Root has also registered for the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction and will go under the hammer at a base price of INR 1 crore. The auction is scheduled to take place on December 23 in Kochi.
Joe Root’s Numbers in T20 Cricket
Joe Root has played 88 T20 matches in his career, where he garnered 2083 runs at an average of 32.45 and strike rate of 126.70. He has been equally impactful with the ball as well, having picked up 22 wickets at an economy of 8.56.
As for international cricket, he has featured in 32 T20Is, scoring 893 runs at a strike rate of 126.30. It will be intriguing to see if Delhi Capitals show interest in the Englishmen in the upcoming IPL auction.
