India overwhelmed Australia with an inning and 132 runs win in the opening match of the four-match series in Nagpur to take a 1-0 lead.
Thanks to their thumping win, India’s points percentage has improved to 61.67 in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Although Australia suffered their second loss, they still lead the standings with a PCT of 70.83.
What Happened in the First Test: A Recap
Following their victory in the toss, Pat Cummins and Australia elected to take the first strike but were promptly bowled out for 177. Marnus Labuschagne top-scored for the visitors with 49 runs, with Steve Smith, Alex Carey, and Peter Handscomb each contributing 30s.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer as he took five wickets (5/47) in his comeback. R Ashwin also picked up three wickets.
India, in their first innings, amassed 400 runs on the board, taking a 223-run lead. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 120 runs, while Axar Patel and Jadeja both made important contributions with their half-century knocks.
With the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja leading the way, India successfully bowled out Australia for 91, hence registering a thumping win by an inning and 132 runs.

Despite the win, India’s position in the World Test Championship standings remains unchanged at second place with nine wins, two losses, and four draws.
They have 111 points and a PCT of 61.67. If India records a win over Australia with results of 2-0, 3-0, or 3-1, they will qualify for their second consecutive World Test Championship final.
