Rishabh Pant ruled out of the entire ODI series.
Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh due to an undisclosed injury. The step was taken by the team management after consulting with the BCCI Medical Team.
KL Rahul will don the wicketkeeping gloves in the southpaw’s absence in the ongoing first ODI in Dhaka. The BCCI released a statement during the toss at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday, December 4, which read:
“In consultation with the BCCI Medical Team, Rishabh Pant has been released from the ODI squad. He will join the team ahead of the Test series. No replacement has been sought.”
The statement further stated the unavailability of Axar Patel for the first ODI:
“Axar Patel was not available for selection for the first ODI.”
Bangladesh Opts To Bowl First
As for the series opener, Bangladesh stand-in captain Liton Das won the toss and opted to bowl against India in Dhaka’s Shere Bangla National Stadium. Meanwhile, for India Kuldeep Sen has been handed a debut cap.
Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace attack in the absence of the senior paces Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. The Men in Blue has decided to go with four fast-bowling options with Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar being included as fast-bowling all-rounders to add depth to the Indian batting.
