IND vs BAN: Shubman Gill Slams Century vs Bangladesh, Becomes Fastest Indian to 8 ODI Hundreds

Shubman Gill slammed his first ever century in ICC event.

India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill continued his brilliant form with a composed century against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai on Thursday. His unbeaten 101 off 129 balls helped India chase down a target of 229 with six wickets in hand.

Shubman Gill’s Milestone Innings

Gill reached his eighth ODI century, also his maiden Champions Trophy ton, in 125 balls, striking nine fours and two sixes. This century came at a crucial time, as India lost key batters Rohit Sharma (41), Virat Kohli (22), Shreyas Iyer (15), and Axar Patel (8) during the chase. However, Gill remained composed, steering the team to victory alongside KL Rahul, who contributed 41* off 47 balls.

His innings added to his excellent run of form, following a century and two fifties in the recent series against England.

Fastest to 8 ODI Centuries for India

Gill’s century also made him the fastest Indian batter to reach eight ODI hundreds, achieving the feat in just 51 innings, surpassing legends of the game.

New No. 1 in ICC Rankings

A day before this match, Gill dethroned Pakistan’s Babar Azam to become the top-ranked ODI batter in the ICC rankings. He currently holds 796 rating points, ahead of Babar (773). Rohit Sharma is third with 761 points, followed by South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell.
